JD Gyms Vending Machines

Scobie McIntosh and
JD Gyms Partnership

Introduction

In late 2021, Scobie McIntosh began a partnership with
JD Gyms, a rapidly expanding fitness chain known for
its affordable, no-contract gym memberships and high-specification equipment. Since the inception of this collaboration, JD Gyms has grown to encompass over 230 clubs across the UK, with approximately 1 million members nationwide. Central to this partnership has been Scobie McIntosh provision of vending solutions tailored to meet
the specific needs of JD Gyms and its members.

The Challenge

As JD Gyms expanded its market share, the demand for new installations and facility upgrades increased significantly.
This created a pressing need for a consistent, reliable vending solution that could cater to the diverse needs of gym members.

The vending machines needed to offer a variety of products, from protein shakes and bars to essential gym accessories
like padlocks and towels, while also facilitating seamless, cashless transactions.

Our Solution

Scobie McIntosh addressed these needs by supplying over 460 new vending machines to JD Gyms. Each gym is
equipped with two Crane Merchant 6 Media Touch 2 machines, all fitted with Nayax cashless readers. This setup
ensures a consistent user experience across all locations and simplifies the management and maintenance of the
machines.

Scobie McIntosh’s National Account Manager, Pat Gibney, has played a crucial role in overseeing the successful implementation and ongoing support of this partnership. Pat’s expertise and dedication have ensured that all
aspects of the project run smoothly, from initial planning to final installation and beyond.

Customisation

The vending machines were produced in the US to JD Gym’s unique specifications, including a custom planogram
designed to meet the specific demands of gym-goers.

Upon arrival in the UK, the machines were delivered in bulk to our production site in Guide Bridge, outside Manchester, where Scobie McIntosh’s team fitted the Nayax cashless readers, set prices, and made final adjustments before delivering the machines to their respective sites.

Product Offering

The planograms for the vending machines were carefully curated to include popular items such as protein shakes and bars, waters, padlocks, and towels. Notably, the protein shakes and bars are supplied by Applied Nutrition, a company partly
owned by JD Gyms, ensuring high-quality products that align with the gym’s brand values and member expectations.

The collaboration has been a resounding success, with JD Gyms benefiting from a reliable vending solution that
enhances the member experience. The current plan is for organic growth of around 10 gyms per annum, with
potential for further expansion through acquisitions.

Scobie McIntosh remains committed to supporting JD Gyms aggressive rollout throughout the UK, ensuring every new site is equipped with top-quality vending machines
tailored to the needs of their members.

The partnership between Scobie McIntosh and JD Gyms exemplifies how tailored vending solutions can support
rapid business growth and enhance customer satisfaction. By providing customised, reliable, and user-friendly
vending machines, Scobie McIntosh has helped JD Gyms maintain its reputation as one of the most recognised
